There are no shells on the ground or in the nest.

I peeked in on the nest yesterday, and the mother bird shot out and scared me half to death! Cardinal nests are composed of dry leaves and twigs, combined with dry grass and slips of grapevines when available. There was rain and wind but they seemed to hang in there fine in a sturdy sheltered twig nest.

Spring here is coming to a close, but many birds are still actively making nests, sitting on … The eggs had not yet hatched.

What varmint would take a nest of eggs with no shells left behind?

We've been quietly watching a beautiful cardinal family. Eggs and babies disappear from their nests all the time.

One nest was in her cage, which is where she lived while I was at work.
