Everything’s better on Switch, of course, but shmups just sing on this thing.
I have the majority shmups available on Switch.
It makes a lot of sense, really -- in addition to the fact that can TATE the Switch itself, the console's power is well-suited for shmups, which don't tend to be as resource-hungry as AAA games. "Just Shapes & Beats" is a chaotic co-op musical bullet-hell based on three simple things: avoid Shapes, move to the rad Beats, and die, repeatedly. The console is hugely popular in Japan, the home of the shmup.
Thank the quirks of its design that make it possible to play in ‘tate’ mode – whereby the screen is flipped 90 degrees to make sure all the real estate is made the most of when it comes to vertical shooters. Shmup Collection will arrive on Switch on May 14, according to a Nintendo eShop listing.

Indie Shoot 'em Ups Indie Shoot 'em Ups. Nothing else feels quite as good to play to me. The Nintendo Switch can emulate Zero Gunner 2 and Cannon Spike perfectly fine, I have demonstrated it.
Just saw two of my all-time favorite shmups on Switch, Strikers 1945 and Aero Fighters 2 (Dolphin is mah boi!) It may not be as recognizable as many other retro shmups but Zed Blade is definitely worth playing in this day and age. It's probably one of my favorite shmups, along with Ikaruga and Deathsmiles, and the aforementioned Game Tengoku is rapidly growing on me.
