The UK Kennel Club has announced it is to recognise the Kangal Dog as a breed with effect from July 2013. Unfortunately Kangal like dogs from Turkey were taken by Westeners decades ago to create a breed called Anatolian Dog which is completely different from Kangal Dog. The export of purebred Kangal dogs from Turkey has been virtually forbidden.
